Mid-Feb Musical Overload

13Feb10

The musical bombardment over the past few weeks has been out of control! With so many mix sets and free downloads hitting my desktop, Iv hardly even gotten the chance to listen to it all, let alone drop blog posts on everything. So I thought id do a summary of some of the more noteworthy stoof that’s been rocking my “casbah”. Read on for a smathering of freely downloadable music that I’ve deemed: “not shit“.

In the lead up to FlyLo’s new album Cosmogramma, that’s set to hit May 9th, the highly talented glitch producer has released a series of non-album tracks for free download. Apparently they’re tracks that didn’t quite make the cut for the new album, however they’re still of an immensely high quality and are oozing with that unique FlyLo sound we’ve all come to know and love. Whilst the days drag buy in the lead up to the album release, these tracks will help somewhat in calming the anxiousness. There’s also a heap of information about the album release via the link, with the full track listing and all the colabs. I for one was absolutely gob-smacked to hear that Thom Yorke is guesting on a track.

Ooah of Glitch Mob fame has finally released the first solo album under his ‘Of Porcelain’ guise. Trending more on the ambient and lay-back vibe, it’s a direction that many would have never guessed he’d make. Cruisy, melodic, piano-driven beats that just ooze emotion and are bound to relax and chillax. Best thing about it is that he’s offering up the whole album for free via bandcamp.com. Just enter $0 in the amount when you go to download and bam-diggity you gots yo’self some tasty stereo feed.

Elite Force – Annie Nightingale 30-min Mix

Tech-funk maestro Elite Force, as you’ve probably noticed via my earlier blogs, has been on his game recently. With release after release that keep topping the beatport charts, along with an upcoming mash-up concept album that’s set to smash genre boundaries, he’s been a rather busy man. He’s on fire and his latest mix is of no exception. 30 mins of pure Elite Force madness with the some of the best dancefloor smashing beats going round. Recorded for Annie Nightingale’s radio show, it illustrates perfectly why the guy is in such demand. Full track listing via the link.

For those with tickets to their upcoming Australian shows this set will do fantastic work in getting you pumped up and ready for what is set to be one of the live EDM events of the year, if not century. Back in 04 the Hartnoll brothers called it quits after over 15 years in the game. They did a round of farewell sets that echoed across the globe and left many dazed and confused at why such a talented duo would shut up shop. Fast track to 2010 and they’ve decided to get back together, release a best of and rarities album, and hit the tour circuit again. Anyway, Triple J had the boys down for an impromptu DJ set. Its full of oldschool flavours with all the Orbitalesque beats we’ve come to know and love over the 2 decades they’ve been in the game. So grab the set and smash it in the lead up. I’ve got tickets, so I’ll see you there?

Hope the music keeps your boxes rocking! If you like what you hear, let me know by dropping a comment. Always interested in hearing how the music is being received 🙂
